Phonehenge
2024-
Granåsen Ski Centre,
Trondheim (NO)

in production

in collaboration with Zayne Armstrong

Phonehenge takes its inspiration from Stonehenge. From a far it will look megalithic structure, but on closer interaction the three stones will be clearly legible as enlarged reproductions of cell phones in concrete, whose pixelated screens are colorful mosaic tile works.

We are interested in a public sculpture in the tradition of monuments, as something that points to a history that should not be forgotten, as a gesture to a future where things are different. In the spirit of Stonehenge as a site of communion with the heavens and the earth, we borrow this version of thinking about the monument: to erect a gateway that invites us to connect our memories to the present, and to bring these memories with us into the future. We want our sculpture to be a homage to the resources that have been sacrificed for the sake of the community, while also not overlooking the inestimable value of technology as a contemporary form of togetherness.

The jury’s statement:
The sculpture's large dimensions make it an eye-catcher for visitors on their way into the park via central entrance routes, inviting them to stay and wonder in the green areas, adding identity to the place as a meeting place. The proposal manages to illuminate the relationship between humans and technology and nature through elements of nostalgia, irony and surprise. This adds a seriousness and playfulness to a facility consisting of tight infrastructure in the face of forest and field.

Relieving Reliefs
2023-
Bamble ungdomsskole
Stathelle (NO)
The series "Relieving Reliefs", hanging permanently at Bamble Middle School, are oversized "anti-stress toys". An eyeball can be squeezed like a stress ball, and a pencil can be used as a fidget spinner. Positioned outside a psychological health office, this project aims to lightheartedly re-think solutions for stress and anxiety, by embodying outmoded symbols of stress as ends in themselves.

Lambertseterportalen
2023-
Lambertseterparken
Oslo (NO)

In collaboration with Veljko Markovic

commissioned by Kulturretaten and UKS
In the neighborhood Lambertseter, Lambertseterportalen connects several local communities. Aasgaard and Markovic's interactive work is placed in an axis that connects a local school, kindergarten and youth club, thus forming a hub between these public institutions in the open-air area in the Lambertseter park.

Lambertseterportalen is a freestanding structure with a triangular ground plan that resonates with a pavilion as a building form. The kinetic revolving doors in glass and steel form the core of the work, and from an imaginative perspective can be seen as an adventurous portal. Both as a threshold situation in the transition between an outdoor space and indoors, and in a more imaginative sense, where the revolving doors enable change and transformation from one state to another.

Lambertseterportalen was one of seven winning proposals in a sketch competition for art in public spaces and open spaces connected to kindergartens, which was announced in collaboration between the City of Oslo and the Young Artists' Society (UKS). The project was selected for Oslo Architecture Triennial 2022.

Løsrivelsen
2020-
Campus Ås, Norwegian University of Life Sciences
Ås (NO)

In collaboration with Bror Sander Berg Størseth,
as Aurora Sander

commissioned by KORO
A gracefully rippling picnic blanket seems to effortlessly hover just above the ground, as if it is about to be taken by the wind. Next to it, a melon slice, a banana and a piece of cheese are about to be carried away by industrious but unnaturally large ants.

The sculpture enters into a humorous dialogue with another work of art on Campus Ås; Cooling Bag (2004) by Elmgreen & Dragset, a spray-painted bronze cooler that stands alone under a tree on the university grounds.

2017-
WILDLIFE sculpture park, Nesoddparken
Nesodden (NO)

In collaboration with Bror Sander Berg Størseth,

commissioned by Nikotin (Robin Danielsson, Aurora Passero, Camilla Steinum)
Eight aluminum sculptures, shaped like birdhouse-sized kiosks, form an art installation inspired by the ambiance of Markveien in the Grünerløkka neighborhood of Oslo.  These miniature kiosks serve a functional purpose as well, regularly replenished with buns and birdseed. Positioned as an offering to local birds, the installation aims to recreate a harmonious blend of art and nature.
